EQUINE WELLNESS DEPENDS ON HOW WELL YOU AND YOUR HORSE WORK TOGETHER
Behavior + Balance + Training = Wellness
Behavior
A horse’s overall wellness is a prerequisite for a productive horse/rider connection. Also key to achieving the highest performance and the most pleasure for the horse/rider pair is the body awareness and attitude the rider brings to the horse, along with her skill level.
A synergy exists between the level of a horse’s physical, mental and emotional wellness and the level of communication between the rider and the horse, and together they determine the level of success possible for the horse either as an athlete or as a companion
Balance
The health and comfort of your horse affects his ability to respond to the requests you make of him and your physical bearing and mental attitude greatly influences the wellness of the horse. If a horse is pain free but still stressed, the cause could be something in his environment or the way you as his rider relate to him.
My experience equips me to evaluate how you and your horse interact. I can teach you how to “read” your horse and his level of sensitivity, so you can match the way you ask for what you want from him to his emotional makeup.
Training
I can show you how to be consistent and to set clear boundaries in a way that establishes and maintains respect between you as “partners.” I can help you discover what your own body awareness and energy level is communicating to your horse. I can evaluate the communication quality of any horse and rider pair; the fundamentals are the same no matter the discipline.
Wellness for your horse = wellness for you
I will help you evaluate and care for the total, or holistic, package of your horse’s physical, mental and emotional well-being. Balance and comfort in each aspect is necessary to achieve your horse’s highest potential as a performance athlete and as a companion. Behavioral problems and disappointing performance are often linked to physical discomfort, stress, or a combination of factors that can’t be addressed by schooling.
My holistic approach to equine wellness in no way competes with, but rather complements and coordinates with the expertise and care of your vet, chiropractor, trainer and farrier.
